Yvonne Jordan's "Sew and Swim" classes

Yvonne writes:

"I have a small quilt shop and have taught quilting and sewing to kids several times. I am a former Home Economics teacher. We live along the lake so I have called my class "Sew and Swim" Each student made a mini doll quilt from a pre-printed panel (Sunbonnet Sue) as well as a matching pillow. We sewed in the am and they brought a bagged lunch and we had picnics by the lake and then went swimming in the afternoon for 2 days in a row. We started out with each student practice sewing on paper and following a line, both straight and curves. This was called getting a drivers license. They loved this. They learned to thread a machine and how to control it, as well as hand sewing a label onto the back of their quilt complete with their name and the date. I worked between 2 machines. The others watched and/or worked on making a label for their quilt. It was a lot of fun for everyone and they begged to get out of the lake and get back to sewing before the afternoon was over. The girls were able to choose fabric backing for their quilt top and have a brief tour of my Quilt Shop. My name is Yvonne Jordan and my shop is "Gosline Place Mercantile" at 2306 Lake Rd.,Aurora, New York. Contact me anytime or stop by my lakeside shop!"
